Likewise amra, amrataka, matulunga, nikucha, karamarda, moca, dantashatha, badara, koshamra, bhavya, jambava, kapittha, tintidika, paravata, akshoda, panasa (jackfruit), narikela, dadima and amalaka, other things of this kind, and everything sour, liquid or solid, are incompatible with milk.[1]

Charaka gives no reason for this list. Panasa, jackfruit, sits among fruits that end with 'everything sour', but the text does not say why each one is there. Nor does it say whether ripe fruit or the unripe jackfruit cooked as a vegetable is meant.[1]

The modern view

We have not found a modern study that tests jackfruit eaten with milk. The rule comes from the classical text alone.

Questions people ask

Can I drink milk some time after eating jackfruit?

Charaka gives no gap. His rule is about the two taken together, and he does not say how long after jackfruit milk would fall outside it.[1]
