How to read this list
Some entries are lab findings: a regulator tested a product and found lead, mercury, arsenic, or a prescription drug the label did not declare. Others are regulatory actions with no test behind them, such as a product held at the US border because it was sold as an unapproved drug, or a licence suspended over advertising. Each entry says which it is.
"Named in notice" is the firm the notice names, with the role the notice gives it. For border holds that is often a shipper or supplier, not the maker.
Why this matters
In a 2008 study, about one in five Ayurvedic medicines bought online contained detectable lead, mercury or arsenic. Products made with rasa shastra, the tradition of processing metals and minerals, were more than twice as likely to contain them (40.6% against 17.1%). Saper RB, Phillips RS, Sehgal A, et al.
