What the texts say
Masha, urad, is one of six grains and pulses that Charaka says clash with milk, named right after kulattha, horse gram. The list is part of his passage on viruddha ahara, incompatible food.[1]
The modern view
We have not found a modern study that tests urad dal eaten with milk. The rule comes from the classical text alone.
