What the texts say

परिहारविरुद्धं तु वराहादीन्निषेव्य यत्| सेवेतोष्णं घृतादींश्च पीत्वा शीतं निषेवते
parihāraviruddhaṃ tu varāhādīnniṣevya yat| sevetoṣṇaṃ ghṛtādīṃśca pītvā śītaṃ niṣevate
Incompatible in what follows is taking hot things after eating pork and the like, or cold things after drinking ghee and the like.[1]

Charaka calls this parihara viruddha, an incompatibility in what is taken afterwards. The word is uṣṇa, "hot", so the rule covers hot food as well as hot drinks. It names pork (varāha) "and the like" without listing the others, and gives no reason or waiting time. The same line has a mirror rule: cold things after drinking ghee.[1]

The modern view
