What the texts say
Narikela, the coconut, comes near the end of Charaka's list of fruits incompatible with milk, after jackfruit and before pomegranate and amla. The milk in the rule is payas, dairy milk. The list closes with everything sour, liquid or solid.[1]
The modern view
We have not found a modern study that tests coconut taken with dairy milk. The rule comes from the classical text alone.

Questions people ask
Does this mean coconut milk is bad?
Charaka's rule is about dairy milk taken with coconut, the fruit. It is not a rule about coconut milk on its own.[1]
Can I drink milk and coconut water together?
Charaka names narikela, the coconut, among the fruits not to take with milk. Whether that takes in coconut water is a question for a vaidya.[1]
