The short answer
No studies found. We searched for research on shilajit taken with allopurinol, febuxostat or probenecid and found none. So there is no evidence either way on whether shilajit changes how these uric acid medicines work.
The concern we can point to is the product itself. A 2025 lab analysis found thallium, a toxic metal, in raw shilajit from five countries and in supplements bought in Poland, Russia and Kyrgyzstan. No Indian brand was among them. If you take a medicine for gout or high uric acid, tell your prescribing doctor before you start shilajit, and show them the pack.
Allopurinol is sold in India as Zyloric, and febuxostat as Feburic.

No listing is not a clearance. A missing interaction here never means a combination is safe.
The evidence, study by study
Lab analysis of shilajit products, Iran, Slovakia and Poland, 2025 In vitro
The chemists measured thallium in 13 raw shilajit samples from Iran, India, Nepal, Russia and Kyrgyzstan, and in supplements bought in Poland, Russia and Kyrgyzstan. Levels reached 0.226 micrograms per gram in the raw material and 0.5 micrograms per gram in supplements, and some supplements held more than the raw resin. Nobody took anything in this study, and no Indian brand was tested. The authors also cite earlier reports of arsenic, lead and mercury in shilajit.[1]
What your doctor may watch for
- Uric acid and kidney and liver tests, which your doctor already uses to manage allopurinol. The label lists serum uric acid among the baseline tests.[2]
What to tell your prescribing doctor
You can read this out, or show them this page:
“I am taking, or planning to take, shilajit (name of product, batch, dose) along with my uric acid medicine. I could not find any study of the two together. Is there a reason to avoid it, and should my uric acid or kidney tests be checked?”

Questions people ask
Does shilajit raise or lower uric acid?
None of the studies we reviewed for this page measured shilajit's effect on uric acid, so we cannot say.[1]
What about colchicine for gout attacks?
This page covers medicines that lower uric acid over time. Colchicine, used for flares, is a separate question that this research did not cover.[2]
Related
Shilajit and diuretics (water tablets)
Not studied in people. In a lab experiment, fulvic acid from shilajit bonded with furosemide. What that means for someone taking both is unknown.
InteractionShilajit and blood pressure medicines
We found no study of shilajit with BP medicines, so any effect is unknown. Lab tests have found thallium, a toxic metal, in some shilajit.
InteractionShilajit and metformin
Not studied in people. We found no human study of shilajit with metformin, and the one rat study could not be checked. Shilajit quality also varies.
