The short answer
Shatavari Kalpa is a shatavari preparation sold in India as granules, for example by Dhootapapeshwar. We did not find it in Parts I and II of the Ayurvedic Formulary of India, and its recipe is being checked against the printed Part III, so this page does not yet list ingredients or classical uses. We found no study of Shatavari Kalpa itself in people.
Its main herb, shatavari (Asparagus racemosus), has its own interaction pages, including diuretics, diabetes medicines, lithium and hormone treatment. If you take any of these, tell your doctor before you start it. If you have diabetes, read the pack for sugar.
What is in it
The official recipe is being checked against the printed formulary, so no ingredient list is shown yet. Products sold under this name may differ, so read the label on your pack.
What it is used for
- The formulary's list of uses has not yet been checked, so we do not list any. Shatavari itself is the root of Asparagus racemosus.[2]
What the evidence says
We have not found a study of this formulation itself that we could check. That says nothing either way about whether it works.
Safety notes
- Shatavari has its own pages: Shatavari and diuretics, Shatavari and diabetes medicines, Shatavari and lithium, and Shatavari and hormone treatment or contraceptives.
- Shatavari Kalpa is often searched together with "sugar free". Until the recipe is checked, read the label for sugar if you have diabetes.
- We found no study that reports side effects of Shatavari Kalpa in people. That is a gap in the evidence, not a sign that there are none.
Who makes it
Sold in India by makers including Dhootapapeshwar. We list names so you can match your bottle to this page. We do not recommend or sell any brand.

Questions people ask
What is the difference between Shatavari Kalpa and shatavari powder?
We have not yet checked the official Shatavari Kalpa recipe, so we cannot say how it differs from plain shatavari powder. Compare the ingredient lists on the two packs.[1]
Can I take Shatavari Kalpa after delivery or while breastfeeding?
Advice on pregnancy and breastfeeding is held back until a vaidya on our board has reviewed this page. Ask the doctor or vaidya who looks after you and your baby, and show them the pack.
Related
Shatavari, the pill and hormone therapy
Not studied in people. Lab work suggests shatavari acts on the oestrogen receptor, but whether it changes how the pill or HRT works is unknown.
InteractionShatavari and metformin
Not studied in people. Shatavari root extracts made pancreas cells release more insulin in the lab, which could add to diabetes medicines.
InteractionShatavari and diuretics (water tablets)
Not studied in people. A shatavari root extract increased urine output in rats at a high dose, so it could in theory add to a water tablet.
InteractionShatavari and lithium
We found no study of the pair. Shatavari acted as a diuretic in rats at a high dose, and sodium loss from diuretics can raise lithium levels.
